Delhi Police Investigates Cyber Fraud Case

The Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into a significant cyber fraud case linked to the son of former Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral. Allegedly, Naresh Kumar Gujral, a former MP, has fallen victim to a scam amounting to ₹7.80 crores. An FIR was filed in connection with this incident on Tuesday.

According to police sources, as part of the recovery process, officials have managed to freeze approximately ₹4 crores.

Investigators revealed that the fraud was executed by impersonating Naresh Kumar Gujral. The suspect reportedly contacted a member of Gujral's staff via WhatsApp, using a photo of Gujral to pose as him. The impersonator engaged in conversation, claiming to be in a meeting, and instructed the staff to transfer funds to a specific bank account through RTGS.

The cyber cell of the Delhi Police is currently probing the case, tracking the financial transactions, and working to identify those involved in this financial fraud carried out through impersonation.

This incident highlights that cybercriminals are not only targeting ordinary citizens but are also preying on some of the country's most secure and influential families. Cybersecurity experts advise that before any financial transaction or RTGS transfer, even if the message appears to come from a senior official or owner, it is crucial to verify the request through a traditional phone call or face-to-face conversation.
