Suspicious Drone Incident at Kannur Central Jail

Authorities in Kerala have initiated an investigation following the sighting of a suspicious drone over the Kannur Central Jail. The police reported this development on Monday.

According to officials, the case was registered by the Kannur Town police on Sunday based on a complaint from the jail's deputy superintendent.

The First Information Report (FIR) indicates that between 4:20 PM and 4:30 PM on Saturday, an object resembling a drone was observed flying near the jail's animal shed. The FIR further states that the object then moved towards the women's prison section.

Police noted that when jail officials spotted the object, they suspected it was a drone operating within the prison premises. In recent months, there have been multiple attempts to smuggle prohibited items, including drugs, near the Kannur Central Jail.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the drone was intended to drop any contraband into the high-security area. Recently, hash oil was seized from an inmate.

In light of this incident, jail authorities have decided to enhance security measures, which will include deploying additional personnel to monitoring towers to keep an eye on illegal drone activities above the prison.
