Update on Air India Crash Investigation

On Friday, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced that the investigation into the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad is in its final stages, with a report anticipated within a month. This incident, which occurred last year, resulted in the loss of 260 lives.

Speaking at an event in 'Gift City', Naidu committed to addressing the concerns of the families affected by the Ahmedabad crash, stating that a dedicated ministry team is coordinating compensation matters related to the June 2025 incident.

Naidu informed reporters, "The investigation is progressing robustly. We must recognize that since foreign nationals were aboard the crashed aircraft, the report will be scrutinized by various countries. Any nation or organization may raise questions regarding it."

He emphasized the need for the investigation to be conducted with seriousness, fairness, and transparency, which is the approach being taken.

On June 12 of last year, a flight bound for London’s Gatwick Airport crashed shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, landing in the vicinity of a medical college hostel. The fire that ensued claimed the lives of 241 out of 242 passengers and 19 individuals on the ground.

The minister noted, "The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting an independent inquiry, and we are providing all requested resources." He reiterated that the investigation is nearing completion and a report is expected soon.

Naidu also mentioned that his ministry will consider any issues raised by the families of the deceased against the airline. In response to concerns expressed by some families regarding Air India, he stated, "We are monitoring the situation."

A group of approximately 30 relatives of the victims from Gujarat has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting the release of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR) black box data to uncover the truth behind the tragedy.
