Ongoing Investigation into TCS Nashik Allegations

A senior officer from the Maharashtra police stated on Tuesday that the involvement of Nida Khan, accused in a case related to alleged sexual harassment and forced conversion at the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Nashik office, pertains to pressuring individuals into conversion. Efforts to apprehend her are still underway. This statement follows Nida's unsuccessful attempt to secure interim protection from arrest.

So far, nine FIRs have been filed in connection with the alleged incidents at TCS, with Nida and four others named as defendants in one of the cases. A total of eight individuals have been arrested in relation to this matter. The police officer mentioned in a conversation that local members should be included in the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) committee at workplaces, advocating for regular in-person meetings instead of video conferences.

The officer remarked, “Nida's role in the case is linked to the alleged conversion.” Since the allegations surfaced, Nida has been on the run. The session court has scheduled a hearing for her anticipatory bail plea on April 27. According to TCS, Nida was employed as an associate at the Nashik office and has requested immediate protection from arrest, citing her two-month pregnancy.

However, the officer indicated that Nida failed to obtain interim protection from arrest from the session court, and the search for her continues. Most of the victims in this case are from middle-class families, aged between 21 and 30, and were working at the associate level, earning around ₹20,000 per month.

When asked if the victims had contacted the office's POSH committee, the officer noted that there were some “technical issues” and that most committee members were external. He emphasized that the POSH committee should be proactive in addressing the case, appoint local members, and hold face-to-face meetings at least every three weeks instead of relying solely on video conferences. In response to another inquiry, he stated that no new victims had come forward, but the police would take action if additional complaints were filed.

According to the FIRs filed against Nida and other accused, the main perpetrator, Danish Sheikh, introduced the victim to his friends, including Nida and Tausif, while working at TCS. It is alleged that the trio began mocking Hindu rituals and deities, particularly making derogatory comments about the Shivling, Lord Krishna, and Draupadi from the Mahabharata, in an attempt to coerce the victim into conversion.

The Nashik police have formed three teams to locate Nida, dispatching members to various locations to apprehend her. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating the allegations outlined in the nine FIRs related to the case. TCS has stated that it maintains a strict policy against any form of harassment and has suspended employees allegedly involved in the sexual harassment incidents. The company also claimed that it had not received any complaints through internal channels regarding this matter.
