Jorhat, April 3: The political landscape in Sarupathar has become increasingly charged as Gaurav Gogoi, the Chief of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, launched a fierce critique of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding his controversial comments about Kunki Choudhury and her family.
During a press briefing following an election rally in Sarupathar, Gogoi remarked, “The Chief Minister’s derogatory comments towards a woman reflect his true character and highlight its low nature.”
He continued, “We have repeatedly witnessed him undermining his position and the Assamese community with such statements. The sooner we part ways with him, the sooner we can restore the dignity of this office.”
Gogoi emphasized that the Chief Minister's ongoing controversial statements have not only tarnished the office but have also insulted the people of Assam.
He expressed that the upcoming election is a crucial chance to initiate political change in Assam by ousting what he described as “corrupt and syndicate-driven elements” from governance.
“This is a prime opportunity to eliminate corrupt individuals from political power and foster a progressive and prosperous society. I am optimistic that the electorate will reject such forces on April 9,” he stated.
These comments were made as Gaurav Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi ramped up their campaign efforts in Sarupathar, supporting opposition alliance candidate Jibon Chutia from the Asom Jatiya Parishad.
On the sidelines, Lurinjyoti Gogoi asserted that the voters in Sarupathar have already decided to support the opposition candidate.
He further accused the current MLA of being closely linked to the Chief Minister in various alleged corrupt practices.
“From the Apex Bank scandal to issues within tea gardens, the MLA is perceived as part of a syndicate and commission-based system associated with the Chief Minister,” he claimed.
Lurinjyoti Gogoi also highlighted several local issues, including ongoing inter-state border disputes with Nagaland, the absence of land pattas for numerous residents, communal tensions, and pending demands such as Scheduled Tribe status for six communities.
He concluded by stating that voters are aware of previous political decisions and expressed confidence that they would support Jibon Chutia to create a more inclusive society inspired by Zubeen Garg's ideals.
