Political Activity Heats Up in Assam

Guwahati, Mar 30:  As the Assam Assembly elections approach in just nine days, political engagement has surged across various constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ramping up its campaign efforts in multiple regions, including Jagiroad.

During a public gathering supporting party candidate and Minister Pijush Hazarika, BJP national president Nitin Nabin asserted that Assam has experienced considerable progress under the current NDA administration.

“In the past, Assam was plagued by violence, but now the state is on a path of growth and development,” he remarked.

Nabin criticized previous governments, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the Northeast approximately 38 times since taking office.

“In earlier times, even a single visit by a Prime Minister in five years was considered noteworthy. However, Prime Minister Modi not only visits frequently but also introduces development projects for the people of Assam,” he stated.

He urged voters to rally behind Hazarika, emphasizing the need for a vigorous electoral campaign.

“In the last Lok Sabha elections, Pijush garnered 77,000 votes and emerged victorious. Prime Minister Modi is dedicated to empowering women financially, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma aims to enhance women's independence. With both leaders advocating for women's empowerment, it is crucial for the public to support Pijush and other BJP candidates,” he added.

Nabin also took aim at the Indian National Congress (INC), accusing the party of aligning with “intruders” and neglecting the welfare of Assam's residents.

“We believe that the Congress, in collusion with intruders, has forced the people of Assam to abandon their homes. They have transformed the state into a passage for illegal immigration from Bangladesh. I take pride in the fact that the people have chosen the BJP, and our government is committed to expelling illegal immigrants from the state,” Nabin declared.

Numerous BJP leaders, including state president Dilip Saikia, along with Hazarika and other party officials, attended the event.

In a separate announcement, Nabin, who also serves as an MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur constituency and was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, revealed his intention to resign from his Assembly position.

In a social media update, he stated, “Today, I am resigning from my role as an elected member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly representing the Bankipur constituency.”

“For the past two decades, I have tirelessly worked towards the development of this constituency, which was established by my late father, Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha. The people have graciously allowed me to serve them by electing me as their representative five times in a row,” he concluded.
