High-Octane Campaigning in Assam

Guwahati, Mar 28: With only 11 days remaining until the Assam Assembly elections, political campaigning has escalated significantly throughout the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are deploying their senior leaders for extensive outreach efforts, including rallies and roadshows.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to launch the BJP's vigorous campaign, arriving in Guwahati on Saturday afternoon.

He will spearhead a prominent roadshow in the evening to support the party's candidate for Guwahati Central, Vijay Gupta.

The roadshow is set to commence at Arya Vidyapeeth Playground at 5 pm, traversing important areas of the constituency before concluding near Nepali Mandir.

Party officials anticipate a crowd of approximately 100,000 people along the 1.4-km route. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president Dilip Saikia are expected to accompany Shah, who will also meet with party leaders later that day.

On Sunday, Shah will continue his campaign with rallies in Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur district, supporting minister Ashok Singhal, followed by a public meeting in Tihu, Nalbari district, for minister Chandramohan Patowary.

His two-day visit will wrap up after these events, with plans to return on April 2 for campaigning in the Barak Valley, including Sribhumi and Silchar.

The BJP's campaign will gain further momentum with Prime Minister Narendra Modi joining the efforts. Modi is set to address party workers and the public through the NaMo App on March 30.

State BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita noted that the Prime Minister's involvement would significantly boost the party's campaign.

“Continuing his mass engagements through public rallies, the Prime Minister will also directly interact with party workers and the people of Assam on March 30 at 1 pm,” he stated.

As per party sources, Modi is expected to arrive in Assam on March 31 and will stay overnight in Dibrugarh.

On April 1, he will address election rallies in Dhemaji and Behali. The Prime Minister is also slated to return to the state on April 6 for three campaign meetings in Hojai, Barpeta Road, and Moran.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will also be campaigning in Assam on March 31, addressing a public meeting in Tezpur before attending another event in Golaghat district.

On the same day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will campaign in Jorhat and Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is set to campaign in Lakhimpur on March 29.

With senior leaders from both the BJP and Congress ramping up their presence, Assam is gearing up for a fiercely contested election.

As polling day on April 9 approaches, the influence of these high-profile campaigns on voters across the state will be closely monitored.
