The conflict continues to escalate, with the international community closely monitoring developments.

Missile Assault on Kyiv

Overnight on Sunday, Russia unleashed a barrage of missiles and drones targeting Kyiv and its vicinity, striking residential areas shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cautioned about an impending large-scale offensive from Moscow. The attack has raised fears of civilian casualties. This incident follows a recent assault on Thursday that resulted in the deaths of at least 41 individuals.

Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that a residential building in the Podilskyi district suffered significant damage, particularly between the seventh and ninth floors. Social media footage depicted parts of the building's facade collapsing due to the strike. Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that debris impacted another residential structure in the same area, along with a non-residential building. Additional destruction was noted in garages, a warehouse, and another non-residential facility in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

In Bucha, located just outside Kyiv, at least three individuals were hospitalized, as reported by Kyiv regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk. Explosions were recorded across the capital around 01:40 local time, followed by a second wave of attacks approximately 30 minutes later. Ukraine's Air Force alerted that numerous missiles were en route to Kyiv, prompting air raid warnings throughout much of the nation. Residents in Sofiivska Borshchahivka, a suburb to the west of Kyiv, also experienced power outages during the strikes.

In Poland, the Air Force took precautionary measures by deploying fighter jets to safeguard its airspace. While there were no immediate reports of casualties in Kyiv, Mayor Klitschko indicated that some residents remained trapped in the damaged apartment complex.

The recent missile strikes occurred shortly after President Zelenskyy warned of Russia's preparations for another significant missile offensive, urging civilians to heed air raid alerts. He stated, "Intelligence once again indicates that the Russians are preparing a new massive strike," during his evening address. Zelenskyy noted that this pattern is characteristic of Putin, occurring right after America's Independence Day and just before the NATO Summit in Ankara. He also urged Ukraine's allies to expedite the delivery of Patriot air defense missile systems. This warning followed comments from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who affirmed the continuation of Moscow's extensive missile and drone campaign against Ukrainian cities. The latest attack comes just days after a major offensive on Kyiv on July 2, which resulted in 31 fatalities and 102 injuries, according to Ukrainian officials.
