Sumit Kundu's Asian Games Campaign Ends Early

Indian boxer Sumit Kundu's quest for glory in the men's 70 kg category at the Asian Games was cut short due to an injury, concluding his participation in the round-of-16 stage. Kundu started strong, delivering powerful punches and effectively utilizing his height and weight advantage against Iraq's Ali Al-Sarray, winning the first round.

He also secured the second round with a close score of 3-2, despite Ali's resistance. However, during the third round, Kundu began to limp after slipping, leading to a 'Referee Stops Contest' decision due to a knee injury, as reported by ESPN.

Sumit had advanced to this stage after a unanimous decision victory over Thailand's Bunjong Sinsiri in the preliminary round. Although Sinsiri began aggressively, landing several punches early on, Kundu found his rhythm and won the first round 4-1.

In the second round, Kundu's strategy paid off as he carefully selected his punches, gaining confidence and delivering strong attacks in the final moments. He maintained control in the third round, ultimately winning all five judges' votes for a 5-0 unanimous decision, allowing him to progress to the round of 16.

Roshibina Devi Wins Silver in Wushu

Roshibina Devi claimed her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games, falling to China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the women's sanda 60 kg final held in Aichi-Nagoya. Earlier, the duo of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan earned a bronze medal in the men's double sculls final.

Roshibina, who also secured a silver medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, lost both rounds with a score of 0-5, as the Chinese competitor sealed the match 2-0, according to ESPN. Her impressive performance included a victory over 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam.

On Wednesday, she defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semi-finals, securing her spot in the final. This marks India's 14th medal at the ongoing event, which includes one gold, six silvers, and seven bronzes.

Rowing Update: Bronze for Satnam and Salman

In rowing, the pair of Satnam and Salman clocked a time of 6:13.25, finishing just 3.48 seconds behind the gold medalists from China, Yi Xudi and Nie Yide, and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medalists, Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin, as reported by ESPN. They held second place at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but struggled towards the end.

In the men's singles sculls, Balraj Panwar finished fourth, despite maintaining second place at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m checkpoints. However, he was overtaken by Uzbekistan's Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan's Tatsuya Sakurama in the final stretch, ultimately finishing with a time of 6:54.80, which was 15 seconds behind gold medalist Zhiwei Deng of China.
