Injuries Reported After Landmine Blast Near Jammu's LoC

Jammu: An army soldier sustained injuries due to a landmine explosion in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, according to officials.

The explosion occurred while troops were conducting patrols in a forward area of the Digwar sector during the afternoon.

These forward areas are equipped with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration system, which can sometimes be displaced by heavy rains, leading to such incidents.

The injured Havaldar was promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment, as reported by officials.

In a separate incident, a Bomb Disposal Squad successfully detonated an unexploded mortar shell in a controlled explosion near the Regal border outpost in Samba district earlier today.

Local villagers discovered the mortar shell and alerted the police, prompting a team of experts to neutralize the explosive device.

In the past week, army and police specialists have defused numerous unexploded ordnance in villages along the Line of Control and International Border, following an announcement by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on May 10 regarding a mutual understanding between India and Pakistan to cease all military actions.

This understanding comes after India executed precision strikes on terror infrastructure on May 7, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Subsequently, Pakistan attempted to target Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10.
