Indore, July 31: Following a viral video that depicted a minor assaulting an elderly woman with a stick, the Indore district administration has taken decisive action by closing down an illegally operated old-age home. All 31 elderly residents have been relocated to government-approved shelters.

The closure occurred on Thursday after Collector Shivam Verma initiated an investigation into the facility, which was operating under the Maharana Pratap Welfare Society near the Marimata water tank.

A collaborative team from the district administration, Social Justice Department, and Women and Child Development Department conducted an inspection and discovered that the home lacked the necessary permissions to operate.

Malharganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nidhi Verma stated that the inquiry confirmed the illegal operation of the old-age home.

Verma explained, "A video showing the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday. Following the Collector's orders, officials from various departments inspected the facility."

The home was managed by Neelam Dubey and her team, who were found to be operating without official land allotment for the old-age home. According to government records, the property is registered under the superintendent's name. Legal proceedings have commenced to seal the premises and file a First Information Report (FIR).

Officials reported that all rooms in the facility have been sealed off.

The elderly residents in stable condition are being transferred to Nirashrit Ashram and Ganesh Old Age Home in Gandhinagar, while those requiring medical attention have been admitted to a government hospital.

The disturbing video shows the boy repeatedly striking the elderly woman and pushing away those who attempted to intervene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rubina Mijwani noted that the boy involved in the incident had been residing at the old-age home for five months after arriving with his mother, who later succumbed to burn injuries.

Neelam Dubey claimed she was not present during the incident, stating, "On Guru Purnima, I served food to the residents and went for my meal. Later, I was informed that the boy had hit an elderly woman with a stick. He told me she had first hit him on the head with a tub, after which he retaliated."
