IndiGo Welcomes Former British Airways Chief William Walsh as New CEO
IndiGo's New Leadership
New Delhi: IndiGo, the largest airline in India, has officially announced the appointment of William Walsh, the former chief of British Airways, as its new CEO.
Walsh, a seasoned professional in the aviation sector, is currently serving as the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
IndiGo revealed that Walsh's appointment is pending regulatory approvals, with his tenure at IATA concluding on July 31, and he is expected to start by August 3 at the latest.
This announcement follows the unexpected departure of IndiGo's previous CEO, Pieter Elbers, just weeks prior.
Known as Willie, Walsh has an impressive background, having previously led British Airways and the International Airlines Group (IAG), which encompasses several airlines including Aer Lingus and Iberia.
"As we embark on a new journey of transformation and expansion, I am thrilled to welcome Willie to the IndiGo family. He is a distinguished leader in aviation, bringing a unique blend of global insight, operational know-how, and a commitment to customer service, making him the ideal choice to guide IndiGo during this crucial growth phase," stated Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of IndiGo.
