New Delhi, March 28: An IndiGo flight carrying 161 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday morning due to a reported technical malfunction in one of its engines, according to officials.
A full emergency protocol was activated at the airport as a safety measure. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated without incident, and no damage was reported, confirmed the fire department.
The alert was raised at approximately 10:54 a.m., prompting immediate deployment of fire services to the scene.
The flight, designated as 6E 579, was a Boeing 737 traveling from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to Delhi.
This aircraft was wet-leased from Corendon Airlines, a Turkish airline, as part of IndiGo's short-term operational strategy.
An IndiGo representative stated that a technical issue was identified shortly before the aircraft's landing.
"In accordance with standard operating procedures, the pilots requested a priority landing," the spokesperson explained.
"The aircraft successfully landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport, and all relevant authorities were notified. It is currently undergoing necessary inspections and maintenance," the spokesperson added.
"The safety of our passengers and crew is our utmost priority," the airline emphasized.
Additionally, IndiGo issued a travel advisory on Saturday due to ongoing climate challenges, noting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Aizawl, which have led to slow road conditions in various areas.
"Travelers are advised to check their flight status on our website or app before departing," the airline suggested on X.
They also recommended allowing extra time for travel, as road traffic may be impacted.
