IndiGo Flight Diverted to Mumbai Due to Bomb Threat

An IndiGo flight traveling from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai after authorities received a bomb threat via email. The Airbus, carrying 228 passengers, made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where security teams were deployed. This incident is part of a worrying trend of hoax threats affecting various sectors, including schools and flights. Previous similar threats have also turned out to be false alarms. The airline is yet to release an official statement regarding this incident.

Emergency Landing Following Threat

On December 2, an IndiGo flight en route from Kuwait to Hyderabad was redirected to Mumbai due to a bomb threat received via email. The alarming message, which was sent to officials at Hyderabad Airport, indicated the presence of an explosive device on the plane.

The Airbus, designated as flight 6E1234, was carrying 228 passengers along with six crew members and made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at approximately 6:30 a.m. In accordance with standard emergency protocols, the airport activated its response teams, including bomb disposal units and firefighting personnel, in preparation for the aircraft's arrival.

Airport authorities confirmed that Air Traffic Control (ATC) was notified of the threat early in the morning and coordinated with the airline and security forces for the flight's diversion. An official response from IndiGo regarding the situation is still pending.

This incident is part of a troubling trend, as there has been a recent increase in hoax threats targeting schools, flights, and public spaces across the nation. For instance, on Monday, a private school in Mira Road, Thane district, received an email claiming a bomb was planted on its premises. After a thorough investigation, police concluded that the warning was unfounded.

Earlier, on November 23, a flight from Bahrain to Hyderabad was also rerouted to Mumbai following a bomb threat, which was later confirmed to be a hoax.

Additionally, on May 7, a bomb threat was reported via a phone call to the Sahar Airport hotline in Mumbai, concerning an IndiGo flight. This threat emerged shortly after India conducted strikes on several terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

In response to the May incident, authorities initiated an emergency protocol, with security agencies performing thorough checks. The airline stated, "Flight 6E 6382 from Chandigarh to Mumbai received a bomb threat. Following protocol, the aircraft was moved to an isolation area, passengers were safely disembarked, and all standard procedures were adhered to. We sincerely appreciate our customers' patience and cooperation. The safety of our passengers is our utmost priority, and we are committed to providing a secure and smooth travel experience for everyone."
