IndiGo Flight Cancellations at Delhi Airport: Latest Updates
IndiGo Flights Cancelled at Delhi Airport
On December 5, New Delhi: A new advisory from Delhi Airport has announced the cancellation of all IndiGo domestic flights until midnight. The airport communicated this update via social media platform 'X', stating, "All IndiGo domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport on December 5, 2025, are cancelled until 23:59 hours today. Operations for other airlines will continue as scheduled."
The advisory further mentioned, "Our dedicated teams on the ground are actively collaborating with partners to minimize disruptions and enhance passenger comfort. For the latest flight updates, please visit our official website www.newdelhiairport.in."
Earlier in the day, the airport had advised passengers to confirm their flight status with airlines before arriving at the airport. This announcement follows significant operational disruptions faced by IndiGo, leading to numerous cancellations and delays.
On Thursday alone, over 500 flights were cancelled, with many others experiencing delays. In November, IndiGo reported a total of 1,232 cancellations across its network.
An earlier message on social media indicated, "Operational challenges affecting certain domestic services are causing flight delays and cancellations."
"We strongly advise passengers to check their flight status directly with their airline before heading to the airport. Our dedicated teams are working hard with all partners to alleviate the disruption and ensure a comfortable travel experience. We appreciate your patience and cooperation," the airport stated.
In response to the situation, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu convened an emergency meeting with IndiGo’s senior management to evaluate the ongoing issues. The Ministry is closely monitoring the disruptions and has implemented increased oversight. The Minister has also instructed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to ensure full support for affected passengers. Additionally, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been tasked with monitoring airfares amid concerns about potential fare increases due to reduced capacity.
On Thursday, the DGCA held a detailed meeting with IndiGo’s leadership to seek explanations for the surge in cancellations. IndiGo attributed these issues to operational challenges related to the implementation of Phase II of the revised Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms, difficulties in crew scheduling, and seasonal winter conditions.
The revised FDTL Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), which came into effect on July 1 and November 1 following court orders, aim to improve safety and reduce pilot fatigue. During the meeting, IndiGo acknowledged that it had underestimated crew needs under the new regulations, leading to planning gaps and staff shortages.
The airline indicated that disruptions may persist for the next two to three days as they work towards stabilization. Starting December 8, IndiGo plans to temporarily reduce flight frequency to lessen inconvenience. The airline has also requested a temporary relaxation of certain FDTL regulations for A320 aircraft until February 10, 2026, assuring the DGCA that normal operations will be fully restored by that time.
