IndiGo Announces Full Refunds for Cancellations
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has instructed IndiGo to process refunds by December 7 for passengers affected by significant cancellations and delays due to operational disruptions in recent days. In response, the airline announced on Saturday that it would fully refund all bookings canceled between December 5 and December 15. Additionally, IndiGo will waive all cancellation and rescheduling fees for these bookings. The airline stated that all refunds will be automatically processed back to the original payment method. They expressed deep regret for the inconveniences caused to travelers.
Ministry's Directive on Refunds
The Civil Aviation Ministry emphasized that the refund process for all canceled or disrupted flights must be completed by 8:00 PM on December 7, 2025. Furthermore, the ministry has mandated that no rescheduling fees should be charged to passengers whose travel plans have been affected by cancellations. Any delays or non-compliance in the refund process will result in immediate regulatory action.
IndiGo's Efforts to Stabilize Operations
IndiGo has requested until February 10, 2026, to fully stabilize its operations and has begun reducing flights in the coming days to mitigate losses. The airline has repeatedly apologized and advised passengers to check flight statuses before leaving home, carry essential items, and consider flexible or refundable bookings. Amid increasing pressure, pilots have urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to approve schedules only after airlines demonstrate adequate crew numbers, ensuring that safety-driven policies are not compromised by commercial interests.
