The Indian women's badminton team kicked off their Asian Games 2026 journey with a commanding 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan. This win secured their spot in the quarterfinals, where they will compete against Japan on September 22, aiming for a medal.

Outstanding Performances by Indian Players

PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist and former world champion, set the tone for the team with a decisive win against Kamila Smagulova, finishing the match with scores of 21-7 and 21-9.

Following her, young talent Unnati Hooda extended India's lead by defeating Alissa Kuleshova with a score of 21-7, 21-10.

The final match saw 17-year-old Tanvi Sharma dominate Diana Namenova, winning 21-5, 21-10, completing a clean sweep for India.

Chasing a Historic Gold Medal

Historically, India has secured a total of 13 medals in badminton at the Asian Games, including one gold, two silvers, and ten bronzes.
