India's Strong Start Against Afghanistan in One-Off Test
India's Promising Performance on Day 1
On Saturday, India concluded the first session of Day 1 in the One-Off Test against Afghanistan with a solid score of 96 runs for the loss of just one wicket at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan played crucial roles, forming a partnership of 55 runs for the second wicket off 78 balls. At lunch, Rahul remained not out at 37 runs, while Sudharsan contributed 32 runs.
Choosing to bat first, India opened their innings with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who provided a steady beginning. Jaiswal set an aggressive tone by hitting a boundary off Ziaur Rahman Sharifi in the very first over, marking a positive start for the Indian side.
In this Test, India featured six left-handed batsmen, marking only the third instance of such a lineup, following their matches against South Africa last year.
Afghanistan's Early Breakthrough
Despite India's strong start, Afghanistan's bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, making it challenging for the Indian batsmen to score freely.
Afghanistan managed to claim an early wicket on Day 1, with Mohammad Saleem Safi dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal on the last ball of the 12th over. Jaiswal edged a short delivery to the wicketkeeper, departing for 24 runs off 32 balls, visibly disappointed after a promising start. This brought Sai Sudharsan to the crease.
Mohammad Saleem Safi was the standout bowler for Afghanistan, taking the only wicket of the innings so far.
Current Match Score
As of now, the score stands at: India 96/1 (KL Rahul 37*, Sai Sudharsan 32*; Mohammad Saleem Safi 1/27) against Afghanistan.
