India Condemns Attacks on Merchant Ships

New Delhi: On Tuesday, India expressed strong condemnation regarding the assaults on two merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in the death of one Indian citizen and injuries to ten others.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission from the Iranian Embassy this morning to formally protest these incidents.

India conveyed its "deep concern" over the attacks on the vessels, MT Al Bahiyah and MT Mombasa, while they were navigating through the strait.

According to the MEA, both ships had a total of 30 Indian seafarers among their crew of 46. Tragically, one Indian national aboard MT Al Bahiyah lost his life, and another was injured.

Furthermore, of the 18 Indian crew members on MT Mombasa, nine suffered injuries, with two reported to be in serious condition.

The MEA reiterated India's strong condemnation of these violent acts targeting seafarers and disrupting safe navigation in international waters like the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, the MEA expressed grave concern over the resurgence of attacks and escalating tensions in the West Asian region, urging an immediate halt to violence and a return to diplomatic dialogue for the sake of peace.
