Monitoring Oil Supply Amid Rising Conflict

New Delhi: With the intensifying military conflict in the Middle East, India's Oil Ministry announced on Monday that it is actively monitoring the situation and is prepared to implement necessary measures to maintain the availability and affordability of essential petroleum products across the nation.

India relies on imports for 88% of its crude oil and about half of its natural gas, primarily transported through the Strait of Hormuz. This vital route has come under threat from Iranian authorities, who have indicated potential closures in response to recent attacks involving the US and Israel.

Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri convened a meeting with senior officials from the ministry and public sector companies to assess the current supply status of crude oil, LPG, and other petroleum products.

The ministry emphasized in a post on X, "We are continuously monitoring the evolving situation and will take all necessary steps to ensure the availability and affordability of major petroleum products in the country."
