This match marks the beginning of a challenging schedule, as India will also compete against Brazil and Uruguay on October 3 and 6, respectively, as part of their preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Although Panama is ranked the lowest among the three teams, sitting at 44th in the FIFA rankings, they are still 94 places ahead of India. This matchup poses a significant challenge for Khalid Jamil's squad, as noted in a statement from the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Panama will be the eighth team from the CONCACAF region to play against India, with the Blue Tigers having recorded two wins, two draws, and ten losses in their previous 14 encounters with CONCACAF teams.

India is eager to end a four-match winless streak. Their recent performances include losses to Jamaica and Zimbabwe at the Unity Cup in London, followed by a 1-3 defeat against Tajikistan and a 1-1 draw in a subsequent friendly. The last time India celebrated a victory was on March 31, when they defeated Hong Kong 2-1 during the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
