Men's Recurve Team Achieves Silver Medal
On Friday, India secured a silver medal in the men's recurve team event at the Asian Games 2026, following a 1-5 defeat against South Korea in the final. This achievement added to a remarkable day for Indian archers. The trio of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge, and Neeraj Chauhan could not replicate the earlier success of the women's team against South Korea, as the Koreans showcased their ability to perform under pressure, as reported by ESPN.
Final Match Breakdown
The final match began with a tightly contested first set, where both teams scored 56 points. India initially led by two points after the first rotation. However, in the second set, South Korea took charge, achieving a perfect score of 30 in their opening rotation, while India managed only 25, resulting in a 3-1 lead for South Korea after they finished with 57 points to India's 50.
In the crucial third set, India needed a win to stay in contention. The teams were tied at 28-28 after the first rotation, but a 7 from Neeraj in the second rotation hindered India's chances. Yashdeep and Dhiraj responded with scores of 9 and 10, respectively, bringing India's total to 54. South Korea, needing just 27 points to win, finished strong with scores of 10, 9, and 9, totaling 56 points to secure the gold.
A Successful Day for Indian Archery
This silver medal continued India's impressive performance in recurve archery at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. Additionally, Kumkum and Dhiraj earned silver in the mixed recurve team event after a close 3-5 loss to China in the final.
India reached the men's recurve team final after a dominant 6-0 victory over Iran in the semifinals, where Neeraj, Yashdeep, and Dhiraj won all three sets.
India's Growing Medal Count
The silver medal in the men's team event marked India's 71st medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, bringing the overall tally to 12 gold, 25 silver, and 34 bronze medals. At the time of reporting, India was positioned sixth in the medal standings.
