India's Government Enhances Rail Travel Experience with Subsidies and New Trains
Subsidized Rail Travel in India
The Indian government is offering heavily subsidized rail travel, covering 45% of the ticket cost for each passenger. This initiative ensures that despite a modern travel experience, fares remain significantly lower compared to neighboring and developed countries.
Introduction of New Trains
To facilitate short-distance travel, the government plans to launch 200 new intercity trains along with 238 new suburban trains equipped with automatic doors for Mumbai.
Job Creation through Railway Projects
Over the past decade, the railway sector has generated 500,000 jobs, with 143,000 direct appointments in the last two years alone. Additionally, various railway projects are creating millions of indirect employment opportunities.
Enhanced Travel Experience
Improved facilities at stations and technology-driven maintenance practices are elevating the travel experience in India.
