The government has taken steps to ensure normal operations at petrol stations and refineries, dismissing rumors of impending shortages. With a robust import strategy and increased production, India is well-equipped to handle the current geopolitical challenges. Read on to discover more about the country's fuel situation and government measures.

Current Situation of Fuel Supply in India

In light of the ongoing Iran-US conflict, reports indicate significant crowds at petrol stations across various regions in India. There is a surge in demand for LPG cylinders, with many individuals rushing to fill their vehicles' tanks and purchasing cylinders at inflated prices. This has led to rampant black marketing and hoarding. Despite circulating rumors about a potential shortage of oil and gas in the country, the reality is quite different. India has a sufficient stock of oil and gas reserves. Even after 27 days of conflict, there is no shortage of gas or oil in India, as confirmed by the central government.

India's Oil and Gas Reserves Are Adequate
The central government has refuted the false information circulating on social media, stating that petrol stations across the country are receiving adequate supplies of petrol and diesel. There is no shortage of gas or oil anywhere in the nation. India ranks as the fourth-largest refiner globally and the fifth-largest exporter of petroleum products, supplying over 150 countries. In addition to exports, more than 100,000 retail petrol outlets are receiving full supplies. Oil companies are now providing a three-day advance stock at petrol stations, an increase from the previous one-day supply.

How Many Days of Oil Stock Does India Have?
Despite tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, India continues to import crude oil from over 41 countries. Oil companies have already secured crude oil supplies for the next 60 days. The government has dismissed claims circulating on social media that suggest the country has only six days' worth of oil stock. Official reports indicate that India has a total oil reserve sufficient for 74 days. Even after 27 days of conflict, India has successfully maintained its oil and gas reserves. While many countries are experiencing rising oil prices, the prices of petrol and diesel in India remain stable.

Government's Update on LPG Supply
The government has clarified that the country's refineries are operating at full capacity. The supply of domestic LPG is normal, and there is no situation of “dry-out” anywhere. Due to geopolitical conditions affecting supply, the government is taking proactive measures. The supply of commercial LPG has been increased by up to 50%, prioritizing restaurants, dhabas, hotels, community kitchens, and migrant labor (5kg cylinders). Domestic LPG deliveries are functioning normally across the country. The government has reported a 40% increase in production from domestic refineries.

Daily LPG Deliveries in India
India imports LPG from several countries, including the USA, Russia, and Australia. Oil companies are delivering over 5 million cylinders daily. Panic buying had previously driven demand up to 8.9 million cylinders, but it has now stabilized at 5 million. Domestic PNG and CNG transport are receiving 100% supply, while industries are getting 80% of their required supply. Schools, hostels, and kitchens have been instructed to receive PNG connections within five days. The government has warned of strict action against those spreading false information.
