New Delhi: The spotlight is back on India's inaugural bullet train initiative as Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that the high-speed rail service is anticipated to commence on August 15, 2027.

This announcement has sparked a variety of responses from political figures, who regard the project as a significant achievement and a source of national pride.

During a media briefing in New Delhi, Minister Vaishnaw detailed that the bullet train project is currently underway along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. He mentioned that the first operational segment will connect Surat to Bilimora, followed by the Vapi to Surat stretch. The entire corridor will cover around 508 kilometers and is being developed in partnership with Japan, utilizing cutting-edge high-speed rail technology.

In response to the news, JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad emphasized that the bullet train project should not be viewed solely through a political lens. He stated, "While this may become a point of contention for the Opposition, we could similarly question missions to Mars or the Moon. The everyday lives of ordinary citizens are equally crucial, and many will benefit from the bullet train service."

Prasad further asserted that such projects should be acknowledged as part of the broader developmental efforts by the government. "Thus, this should transcend political discussions and be recognized as part of the progress our government is promoting. It is undoubtedly a significant milestone for the nation that the decision to introduce the bullet train in India has been successfully executed," he added.

Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC also expressed her support for the announcement, calling it a proud moment for the country. She remarked on the Railways Minister's statement, saying, "It is indeed a matter of pride that the Indian government and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw have confirmed that the first bullet train will be operational from August 15."

Emphasizing the project's importance, she pointed out that the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor has been developed in collaboration with Japan, employing the best available technology. "This is expected to significantly benefit commuters and marks a crucial step towards a developed India," she noted.
