India's Unyielding Position on Terrorism

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized that India will not tolerate terrorism and will never yield to nuclear blackmail. He made these remarks shortly after arriving in Berlin, following India's response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Jaishankar stated that India firmly addresses terrorism and will engage with Pakistan solely through bilateral means. He stressed that there should be no misunderstanding regarding this stance. Furthermore, he acknowledged Germany's recognition of every nation's right to defend itself against terrorism.

Strengthening Ties with Germany

Currently in Berlin as part of his trip to the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany, Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Chancellor Friedrich Merz for Germany's solidarity in the fight against terrorism. Both nations are exploring ways to deepen their partnership to ensure stability amid geopolitical upheaval. Jaishankar remarked that India has been confronting this issue for eight decades, highlighting that the reality that Europe is now waking up to has long been known and faced by India. He pointed out the persistent challenge posed by two difficult neighbors, China and Pakistan, particularly the issue of terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

Critique of Western Support for Pakistan

Jaishankar did not hold back in criticizing Western nations, especially European powers, for their historical alliances with Pakistan's military rulers. He noted that no one has supported military rule in Pakistan as much as the West has, which has significantly undermined democracy there. India has consistently highlighted the role of Pakistan's military establishment in cross-border terrorism and the suppression of civilian democracy.
