Team India's Performance in Round 8

During the eighth round of the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Team India faced setbacks, resulting in draws in both the open and women's categories.

In the open section, India ended in a 2-2 tie against Azerbaijan, while the women's team also drew 2-2 with Kazakhstan.

Notably, world champion grandmaster D. Gukesh managed to secure a draw against Azerbaijani GM Mahammad Muradli.

In the women's match, Alua Nurman triumphed over Indian grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu, but Savitha Shri's draw against Woman International Master Elnaz Kaliakhmet helped India maintain parity.

Current Standings

Following these results, India has dropped to seventh place in the open section with 13 points, while Uzbekistan leads with 14 points.

In the women's section, India is now in fifth place with 13 points, trailing behind China, which holds the top position with 15 points, according to Chess.com.

In the seventh round, India showcased impressive performances, achieving victories in both the open and women's sections.

The open team secured a 2.5-1.5 win against England, while the women's team dominated Germany with a score of 3.5-0.5.

After the sixth round, India was positioned third in the open section, with Uzbekistan leading with a perfect score of 14 points. In the women's category, India was also third with 12 points, just behind China and Uzbekistan, which had 13 points each.

The Chess Olympiad consists of 11 rounds and is set to conclude on September 27.
