India's Athletes Shine at Commonwealth Games 2026

Lawn Bowls

Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh from India continued their strong performance in the women's pairs sectional play at the Commonwealth Games 2026. They achieved their third consecutive win by narrowly defeating Tonga with scores of 5-2, 4-6, and 1-0 in a tense tiebreaker. This victory keeps the Indian pair unbeaten in Section B, where they are currently tied with England, who leads the group based on set difference.

Men's Singles

In the men's singles event, Putul Sonowal faced his first loss during sectional play, falling to Malaysia's Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple with scores of 8-4 and 9-8 in his third match of Section D. Sonowal initially struggled, trailing 4-0 in the first set but managed to close the gap to 4-3. However, Dzulkeple maintained his lead to win the first set and edged Sonowal in the second. This defeat places Sonowal in second position in Section D, complicating his chances of advancing to the semifinals, as only group winners will progress.

Artistic Gymnastics

In artistic gymnastics, the Indian women's team concluded their competition without a medal, finishing fifth in Subdivision 3 with a total score of 93.150 after three rotations. The team, which included Olympian Pranati Nayak, Nishka Agarwal, Protistha Samanta, and Eshitaa Rewale, missed out on medal contention. However, Protistha and Pranati are still in the running for the individual vault final, currently sitting in third and seventh places, respectively.

3x3 Wheelchair Basketball

The Indian women's team in 3x3 wheelchair basketball started their Commonwealth Games journey with a challenging 16-1 loss to Wales in their opening Group B match. The team, featuring Minakshi, Reena, Laxmi, and Ritu, is set to compete against Scotland and Nigeria in their upcoming matches on Monday.

Swimming

In swimming events, Indian athletes Dhakshan Shashikumar and Aryan Nehra were unable to qualify for the men's 400m freestyle final. Dhakshan finished seventh in Heat 3 with a time of 3:58.09, while Nehra, the national record holder, clocked 4:00.26 in Heat 4, placing him outside the top-eight cutoff. They ended up in 15th and 16th positions, respectively.

Boxing

In boxing, India celebrated a victory as Sachin Siwach advanced to the men's 60kg round of 16 after defeating Canada's Keoma Al-Ahmadieh with a score of 4-1 in his opening bout. This win marks India's second success in boxing at Glasgow 2026, following Jadumani Singh's impressive performance in the men's 55kg category.
