India's Assistant Coach Endorses Young Talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Amidst T20I Setback
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Ready for International Cricket
Ryan ten Doeschate, the assistant coach for India, has expressed strong support for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, declaring him fully prepared for the challenges of international cricket. This statement comes in the wake of India's disappointing 2-0 T20I series loss to Ireland, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Following the series defeat, ten Doeschate emphasized Sooryavanshi's undeniable potential, while also noting that the young player would need to wait for his chance. "He's absolutely ready to play international cricket, there's no doubt about that," he stated. Sooryavanshi's rapid ascent to the national T20I team was fueled by an impressive IPL 2026 season, where he amassed 776 runs in 16 innings, earning the Player of the Tournament title with a staggering strike rate of 237.30. Despite his remarkable talent, the team management has been cautious about including him in the starting lineup during the recent series against Ireland.
The Importance of Experienced Players
Ten Doeschate highlighted the significance of seasoned players like Sanju Samson, who cannot be disregarded due to their recent performances. "It's not a question to say you can leave Sanju Samson out. He played a crucial role in winning India the World Cup three months ago and had a commendable IPL season," he remarked.
Stability in Team Selection
The assistant coach further stressed the necessity of maintaining a stable team environment and providing players with consistent opportunities. "It's vital for building players' confidence and sending a clear message. We aim to give players a long run in the team," he explained.
He acknowledged the excitement surrounding Sooryavanshi but reiterated that the young batter must adhere to the same developmental path as his peers. "As ready as Vaibhav is, he will have to follow the same process as everyone else and wait for his time. There are certainly no doubts about his readiness and talent," ten Doeschate added.
Ireland's Historic Victory
Ireland's recent series win marks a significant milestone, being their first-ever series victory against India across all formats. This achievement not only saw them triumph over the reigning T20 World Cup champions but also ended India's impressive streak of 16 consecutive T20I series wins.
In a crucial match where India needed to chase down 155 runs, they fell short, finishing at 153/9, losing by just one run. Despite a stellar bowling performance from Prince Yadav, who took 3 wickets for 22 runs, the Indian batting lineup failed to secure the win.
