India's Ambitious Leap Towards 6G Technology Under Modi's Leadership

In a recent parliamentary session, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia outlined India's ambitious plans for 6G technology, highlighting the rapid expansion of the India 6G Alliance and the establishment of the National Research Foundation. With a significant budget allocation aimed at fostering research and innovation, India is poised to contribute substantially to global 6G patents. The minister emphasized the importance of active working groups and regular monitoring to ensure effective progress. As India aims for global leadership in 6G, the initiatives set forth promise to reshape the country's technological landscape and research ecosystem.
 

Parliament Session Highlights India's 6G Aspirations

In the Parliament building in New Delhi, Union Minister for Communications and Development of the Northeastern Region, Jyotiraditya Scindia, shared on Wednesday that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guidance, India is achieving remarkable milestones in the telecommunications sector and is rapidly advancing towards global leadership in 6G technology.


Rapid Expansion of India's 6G Alliance

Scindia noted that the India 6G Alliance, established under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, is expanding swiftly, with the number of associated institutions rising from 14 to 85. He mentioned that India is set to contribute approximately 10% of global patents in the 6G domain, with 4,000 patents already filed. Additionally, India's proposal for Ubiquitous Connectivity has been approved by international platforms such as 3GPP and ITU.


Active Working Groups and Regular Monitoring

The Union Minister highlighted that the India 6G Alliance comprises seven working groups focusing on critical areas such as spectrum, device technology, components, green and sustainability initiatives, outreach, and 6G use cases. The ministry conducts quarterly reviews of their progress to ensure timely and effective development.


Boosting Innovation through the National Research Foundation

Scindia provided insights into the National Research Foundation (ANRF), which was established in February 2024 under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, aimed at accelerating research and innovation in the country. He revealed that a historic allocation of ₹50,000 crores has been made for the period from 2023 to 2028, with an additional budget of ₹14,000 crores announced by the finance minister. The ANRF will initiate eight significant programs, including Advance Research Grant, Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant, Inclusivity Research Grant, Centers of Excellence, Center of Excellence for Science & Technology, Innovation Indicators and Analysis, Partnership for Accelerated Innovation & Research, and ANRF Transnational Research Hub.


Strengthening Research Ecosystem

Furthermore, the establishment of Centers of Excellence, innovation hubs, transnational research collaborations, and fellowship programs will empower the research ecosystem in the country. Scindia expressed confidence that under the Prime Minister's leadership, India will establish global leadership in 6G technology and set new benchmarks in research and innovation.
