New Delhi/Balasore: The Ministry of Defence announced on Friday that the Short Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-1, was successfully launched from the Integrated Test Range located in Chandipur, Odisha.
This launch confirmed all operational and technical specifications, as stated in an official release from the ministry.
On September 24, 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in partnership with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), successfully executed the launch of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile using a rail-based mobile launcher system, simulating a complete operational scenario.
This advanced missile is capable of reaching distances of up to 2,000 km and incorporates a variety of cutting-edge features.
The unique launch utilized a specially engineered rail-based mobile launcher that can operate on the rail network without any prerequisites, according to official sources.
This system allows for cross-country mobility and can launch with minimal reaction time while maintaining low visibility. It is self-sufficient and includes independent launch capabilities, advanced communication systems, and protective measures.
The missile's trajectory was monitored by multiple ground stations, and the launch was executed flawlessly, achieving all mission goals. This successful test paves the way for the future integration of rail-based systems into military operations. Senior DRDO scientists and officers from the Strategic Forces Command were present to witness the launch.
The Road Mobile Agni-P has already been incorporated into service following a series of successful flight tests.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his congratulations to DRDO, SFC, and the Armed Forces for the successful test of the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime missile, emphasizing that this achievement positions India among a select group of nations capable of developing a canisterized launch system from a rail network.
