Indian Youth Congress President Granted Bail Amid Controversy
Uday Bhanu Chib's Bail Granted by Court
The father of Uday Bhanu Chib, the president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), expressed gratitude towards the judiciary on Saturday for granting his son bail, reinforcing their faith in the judicial system. A court in Delhi approved Chib's bail after he was arrested during protests at the 'India AI Impact Summit'.
Following four days in police custody, Chib was presented before Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta around 1 AM.
Request for Extended Custody Denied
The Delhi police had sought an extension of Chib's custody for an additional seven days; however, the court rejected this request and granted him bail instead. Hari Singh, Chib's father, expressed heartfelt thanks to the judiciary, stating, 'If justice can be found anywhere, it is in the judiciary.' Singh is also a member of the Congress party.
He alleged that the Delhi police's crime branch had levied serious charges against his son, including terrorism and anti-national activities. Singh remarked to reporters, 'So many allegations were made against him that obtaining bail seemed impossible. However, when the court examined the case and the facts, it found no substantial evidence.'
He claimed that the police thoroughly examined Chib's mobile phone but found nothing objectionable. Despite this, they requested another seven-day remand at 1 AM, but the judge delivered justice. I am hopeful and extremely grateful. I thank the court for granting Uday bail.'
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, the leader of the Congress legislative party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, stated that the law has done its job. Mir remarked, 'It is often said that the law does its work. Indeed, the law has prevailed. We welcome the court's decision; ultimately, justice has triumphed.' He alleged that Chib was unlawfully arrested and framed in a case, asserting, 'We have complete faith in the judiciary and the justice system.'
