Indian Wrestlers Shine at U23 Asian Championships in Vietnam
India's Strong Performance at U23 Asian Championships
On the fourth day of the U23 Asian Championships held in Da Nang, Vietnam, Indian freestyle wrestlers showcased their exceptional skills, adding four more medals to the nation's collection. Kumar Mohit and Chandermohan each secured gold medals in their respective weight classes, while Deepak earned a silver in the 61kg division. Another wrestler named Deepak also contributed by winning a bronze in the 74kg category, as reported in a press release.
With these achievements, India's freestyle medal tally has reached six, following the previous day's successes where Akshay T Dhere (57kg) and Vicky (97kg) both clinched gold.
Gold Medals for Mohit and Chandermohan
In the 65kg gold medal match, Mohit dominated the bout, achieving a decisive 12-4 victory over Kyrgyzstan's Oskonbai A. Abdisamatov, securing his place at the top of the podium.
Chandermohan also delivered an exciting performance, narrowly defeating Kazakhstan's Yerkhan Abil with a score of 7-6 to claim the 79kg title.
Deepak faced a tough challenge in the 61kg final, where he battled Kazakhstan's Nurdanat Aitanov to a 4-4 draw but ultimately settled for the silver medal.
In the 74kg category, another Deepak showcased his prowess by defeating Turkmenistan's Vatan Annairazov with a commanding 10-0 victory to earn a bronze.
WFI President Praises Wrestlers
"The freestyle team has demonstrated remarkable consistency over the past two days. Securing four golds, two silvers, and two bronzes in freestyle is a very encouraging sign for us. Mohit and Chandermohan performed excellently today to win their titles, and both Deepaks put forth tremendous effort on the mat. I extend my congratulations to the athletes and coaching staff for these achievements, and we remain optimistic for more medals as the competition continues," stated Sanjay Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
Additional Medals from Punit, Sachin, and Lacky
Kumar Punit contributed another silver to India's medal count in the 92kg division, despite losing 1-12 to Kyrgyzstan's Ulukbek Soorombekov in the final match.
Mor Sachin secured a bronze in the 86kg category with a solid 4-1 victory over Boburbek Ruzimboev.
Lacky also earned a silver medal in the 125kg category after facing a 0-10 defeat against Kazakhstan's Rizabek Aitmukhan in the championship bout.
The evening's freestyle events are still ongoing, with two more Indian wrestlers preparing for their respective medal matches.
