Indian Tourists Can Now Use UPI for Online Bookings at Burj Khalifa!
UPI Payment System Launches at Burj Khalifa
New Delhi: Indian tourists can now utilize the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for online ticket purchases at the Burj Khalifa, marking it as the first attraction in the UAE to adopt this payment method for e-commerce, as announced by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) on Wednesday.
The international division of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) revealed that this initiative is a collaboration with NEOPAY and Emaar Entertainment.
This development allows Indian visitors to secure tickets and experiences at the tallest building in the world via the official website using UPI-enabled applications prior to their arrival in the UAE.
This latest feature enhances NIPL's ongoing partnership with NEOPAY.
Since the launch of QR code-based UPI merchant payments in the UAE in 2022, Indian travelers have been able to use UPI for transactions at various merchants within NEOPAY's network. The recent update extends UPI acceptance to online ticket bookings.
"Indian travelers are increasingly looking for payment solutions that are straightforward, familiar, and seamless while abroad. By facilitating UPI acceptance for online bookings at Burj Khalifa, we are simplifying their payment experience, allowing them to use a trusted method even before reaching the UAE," stated Ritesh Shukla, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI International.
The initiative aims to meet the rising demand for reliable and convenient cross-border digital payments, thereby enhancing the digital payment connection between India and the UAE.
Vibhor Mundhada, CEO of NEOPAY, noted that this integration represents a significant advancement in digital commerce between the two nations, making NEOPAY the first entity in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to facilitate UPI acceptance for e-commerce transactions.
An Emaar Entertainment representative mentioned that the introduction of UPI for online bookings would streamline the customer experience for Indian visitors, who are among the largest international visitor groups to the attraction.
