Indian Teams Set for 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup Championships in Denmark
Favorable Draw for Indian Teams in Denmark
The Indian men's and women's badminton teams have received a favorable draw for the group stages of the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup championships, scheduled to take place in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3. Both teams are seeded eighth in the tournament, based on the world rankings of their players, and will compete in Group A, which includes the defending champions and top seeds, China.
Route to the Quarterfinals
As the 2022 Thomas Cup champions, the Indian men's team is expected to secure one of the two quarterfinal spots from Group A, which also features Pan American champions Canada and Oceania champions Australia. Conversely, the women's team faces a more challenging path to the knockout rounds, as they are grouped with Denmark, the runners-up in the European team championships, and Ukraine, the bronze medalists.
Confidence from the Badminton Association of India
Sanjay Mishra, the secretary general of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), expressed optimism regarding the draw for both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, suggesting it provides a solid opportunity for the teams to advance to the quarterfinals. He emphasized the strength of the squad, noting their capability to defeat top teams, and remarked that once they reach the quarterfinals, anything is possible.
"We have a favorable draw and a chance to reach the quarterfinals in both competitions. Our strong team has demonstrated the ability to overcome any leading team on their day, and once in the quarterfinals, anything can happen," stated BAI secretary general Sanjay Mishra.
Historical Performance of Indian Teams
The Indian men's team made history by winning the Thomas Cup in 2022, while the women's team has previously secured bronze medals in the 2014 and 2016 editions of the tournament.
