Indian TT Pairs Advance to Quarter-Finals

On Wednesday, Indian table tennis duos Harmeet Desai-Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah-Diya Chitale made their way to the mixed doubles quarter-finals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 after securing wins in their Round 3 matches.

Manush and Diya showcased a commanding performance, defeating Maldives' Ahmed Moosa and Aishath Nazim with a score of 3-0, clinching the sets 11-0, 11-7, and 11-6 in a swift 15 minutes. Meanwhile, Harmeet and Yashaswini triumphed over Hong Kong, China's Yiu Kwan To and Ng Wing Lam with a 3-1 victory, winning the match with scores of 11-6, 11-5, 10-12, and 11-7.

Shooting Team Contributes to India's Medal Count

India's success in table tennis continued as both mixed doubles teams progressed to the quarter-finals. The nation’s overall medal tally reached 10, which includes gold medals in cricket, soft tennis, and mixed martial arts, along with seven medals in shooting. Currently, India ranks eighth in the medal standings, while China leads with a total of 60 medals.

On Wednesday, the shooting team added two bronze medals to India's collection. The women's skeet team, comprising Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan, secured third place with a combined score of 331. The men's skeet team, featuring Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill, also earned bronze after a shoot-off victory against Kazakhstan.

Achievements in Other Sports

In soft tennis, Jay Meena made history by winning India's first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport, taking home bronze in the men's singles after a semi-final loss to Japan's Takuya Kurosaka.

The women's kabaddi team of India triumphed over Iran with a score of 37-23 in their Group A match. Boxer Ankush progressed in the men's 80kg category after defeating Bahrain's Hamsa Vogel in the Round of 32.

In rowing, Balraj Panwar qualified for the men's single sculls final, while Satnam Singh and Salman Khan advanced to the men's double sculls final. Additionally, India's women's four crew secured a spot in Final A.

The men's kayak four 500m team reached the final, and Megha Pradeep qualified for the women's canoe single 200m semi-final. Parvathy Geetha and Phairembam Soniya Devi also advanced to the women's kayak double 500m semi-final.
