Announcement of Indian Team for England Test Series
The Indian cricket team has officially announced its squad for the Test series against England, scheduled for June. Notably, senior player Mohammad Shami has not been included in the lineup. Ajit Agarkar, the selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), explained the reasons behind Shami's absence from the five-match Test series.
Ajit Agarkar revealed that Shami has recently sustained an injury, which poses a significant setback for him, and due to workload management, he will not be part of the team. During the press conference announcing the squad for the England tour, Agarkar stated that Shami's workload was not as it should be. They had hoped he would be available, but unfortunately, that is not the case. An MRI revealed some new issues, and currently, he is not fully fit. It is worth noting that Shami has been out of the Indian team for an extended period, having last played a red-ball match for India in June 2023 during the ICC World Test Championship final. Since then, he has been away from the Test squad for nearly two years.
