Indian Rallying Team Set for Historic WRC3 Debut at Rally Islas Canarias 2026
A Pivotal Moment for Indian Rallying
The Indian rallying scene is poised for a significant milestone as TSI Racing prepares to make its mark in the FIA World Rally Championship. Dean Mascarenhas, along with co-driver Gagan Karumbaiah, is set to compete in the WRC3 class at the prestigious Rally Islas Canarias 2026, commencing this Thursday.
Celebrating 50 Years of Rally Islas Canarias
The 2026 edition of Rally Islas Canarias is particularly special, marking its 50th anniversary. Taking place on Gran Canaria Island, which includes the capital city of Las Palmas, the rally will consist of 18 Special Stages (SS) covering a total competitive distance of 301.30 kilometers. This event is entirely on asphalt, making it a full tarmac rally.
TSI Racing's Strategic Comeback
Competing in a Ford Fiesta Rally3, the Indian duo will face a challenging WRC3 lineup over four days on the fast and technical tarmac stages of Gran Canaria. Their participation signifies not only a personal achievement but also the return of a team that has been instrumental in advancing India's international rallying aspirations for nearly two decades. They will benefit from the preparation support of PH Sport, whose extensive experience at the highest levels of rallying will be crucial for their success.
This is not merely a one-time event; it is the result of a well-planned strategy. Mohan Nagarajan emphasized, "We didn't establish TSI Racing just to win championships and stop... Dean is ready. Gagan is ready. As a team, we have never been more equipped to represent India in the World Rally Championship."
Continuing a Legacy of Success
The WRC initiative, launched in March, builds on Mascarenhas' impressive performance in the 2025 Indian National Rally Championship and marks a strategic return to the global arena. TSI Racing has a rich legacy in this domain, having previously supported Indian rally legends like Gaurav Gill and Naren Kumar in their WRC journeys. This legacy is now carried forward by Mascarenhas, who is recognized as one of India's most reliable rally drivers.
Drivers Ready for Their Challenge
"This is a moment I've been striving for a long time," Mascarenhas stated. "Gagan and I have worked hard together, and TSI Racing has provided us with everything we need. The WRC is the pinnacle of rallying, and we are determined to give it our all. Our testing went well, and we feel prepared with the new car and setup," he added after a successful test session on Sunday.
The reigning national co-driver champion, Gagan, brings a calm demeanor, meticulous reconnaissance work, and a well-established synergy with Mascarenhas, all of which could be crucial in navigating unfamiliar terrains.
A Bold Declaration
This debut is more than just a race; it represents a bold declaration of intent. Mascarenhas joins a select group of Indians who have participated in multiple WRC rounds, highlighting a steady resurgence on the global stage. With TSI Racing leading the charge, India's rallying narrative is once again gaining momentum, driven by structure, confidence, and a long-term vision.
