Indian Railways to Transition from UTS App to RailOne for Ticket Booking
Significant Changes in Indian Railways Ticketing System
In a major update, Indian Railways has announced a significant shift in its digital ticketing process. Starting from March 1, 2026, the existing UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile application will be completely discontinued across the nation. The new RailOne super app will take its place, offering a comprehensive platform for booking unreserved tickets, platform tickets, season tickets, and various other services all in one location.
What Are the Key Changes?
- Closure of UTS App: From March 1, users will no longer be able to book general tickets, platform passes, or monthly season tickets (MST) through the UTS app. Passengers must download the RailOne app to continue their ticketing services.
- Features of RailOne App: This all-in-one app will not only facilitate unreserved ticket bookings but also provide live train tracking, e-catering, and other railway services. Users of the previous UTS or IRCTC Rail Connect can log in using their existing credentials without needing to create a new account.
- Impact on Waiting Tickets: The waiting ticket feature for unreserved (general) tickets will continue on the RailOne app, but bookings must be made through this app. The IRCTC app/website will still function for reserved tickets as before.
- Luggage Regulations: There are no major changes reported in the luggage and extra baggage rules. Passengers are expected to adhere to the existing regulations, such as the maximum free luggage limit (typically 35-70 kg depending on the class) and any extra charges. Information regarding luggage may also be available on the RailOne app.
- Aadhaar Verification: Recently, IRCTC has prioritized ticket bookings for Aadhaar-verified users on the first day of the Advance Reservation Period (ARP). The RailOne app may also offer benefits to Aadhaar-linked accounts, although this will not be mandatory for unreserved tickets.
Conclusion
The railway authorities have urged passengers to download the RailOne app promptly and transition from UTS to avoid any inconvenience after March 1. This transition marks a significant step towards a digital India and integrated services, making travel more convenient.
