Introduction of New Train Services
New Delhi, Jan 14: The Indian Railways is set to roll out nine new Amrit Bharat Express trains that will link West Bengal and Assam with various regions across the nation, as announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday.
In a post on a social media platform, Vaishnaw detailed the starting and ending stations for these new routes, which will connect states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra with West Bengal and Assam.
The proposed routes include Guwahati (Kamakhya) to Rohtak, Dibrugarh to Lucknow (Gomti Nagar), New Jalpaiguri to Nagercoil, New Jalpaiguri to Tiruchirappalli, Alipurduar to SMVT Bengaluru, Alipurduar to Mumbai (Panvel), Kolkata (Santragachi) to Tambaram, Kolkata (Howrah) to Anand Vihar Terminal, and Kolkata (Sealdah) to Banaras.
An official press release emphasized that these new Amrit Bharat Express services are part of Indian Railways' ongoing initiative to enhance affordable long-distance travel options.
The statement noted, "In alignment with this vision, the Amrit Bharat Express has become a significant advantage for daily commuters."
According to officials, this service, designed as a special feature of the Amrit Kaal, offers non-AC long-distance sleeper class travel at fares approximately Rs 500 per thousand kilometers, with reduced rates for shorter journeys, bridging regions that are often divided by geography and opportunity.
Since its inception in December 2023, 30 Amrit Bharat Express trains have been operational, and within a week, nine additional services will be introduced.
These new services will enhance rail connectivity from the eastern and sub-Himalayan areas to major destinations in southern, western, and central India.
The ministry highlighted that the trains will be equipped with various passenger amenities, including foldable snack tables, mobile and bottle holders, radium floor strips, upgraded seating and berths, modern toilets with electro-pneumatic flushing, fire suppression systems, and facilities for differently-abled passengers.
Additionally, fast charging points and pantry cars will further improve the comfort of long-distance travel.
