Indian Railways Revamps Ticket and Refund Policies to Curb Black Marketing
Significant Changes in Ticket and Refund Policies
Indian Railways has announced substantial modifications to its ticketing and refund policies aimed at preventing large-scale ticket black marketing. Under the new regulations, passengers who cancel their reserved tickets less than eight hours before the scheduled departure will no longer receive any refund. If a ticket is canceled between 24 hours and eight hours prior to departure, passengers will receive a 50% refund. For cancellations made between 72 hours and 24 hours before travel, a 75% refund will be issued. Previously, travelers could cancel their tickets up to 72 hours in advance and receive a full refund.
Simplified Ticket Cancellation Process
To enhance convenience for offline ticket holders, the railway has streamlined the ticket cancellation process. Passengers can now cancel their tickets at any railway station, regardless of where the ticket was originally booked. Additionally, travelers can board the train from any station located after the departure station mentioned on their ticket. The mobile application will also provide an easy option for passengers to update their boarding point.
Upgrading Coach Options for Passengers
In a further effort to improve passenger experience, the railway has introduced a new option that allows travelers to upgrade their allocated coach before the train departs. Passengers can change their coach category up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure. This means that those traveling in lower classes, such as Third AC, will have the opportunity to move to higher classes like First AC if seats are available. This upgrade can be facilitated through the railway's official mobile application.
