Indian Players Set to Compete at BWF World Junior Championships 2026

The BWF World Junior Championships 2026 is set to kick off in Cairo, with Tanvi Patri and Shaina Manimuthu leading the Indian contingent. The tournament will feature singles matches for players under 19, running from October 12 to 17. Alongside the women's team, the men's singles will be represented by Dev Ruparelia, while doubles competitions will see multiple Indian pairs competing. With a history of success, including a silver medal from last year, India aims to make a strong impact at this prestigious event.
 

Indian Contenders at the BWF World Junior Championships

Tanvi Patri and Shaina Manimuthu are set to lead India's representation at the BWF World Junior Championships 2026, commencing on Monday. The tournament, which will feature singles matches from October 12 to 17, is being held at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex, according to information from Olympics.com. This event is open to players under the age of 19. Tanvi, the Asian under-17 champion, and silver medalist Shaina will be at the forefront of India's women's team, accompanied by Parul Choudhary and Tanvi Reddy Andluri. Tanvi Patri enters the competition as the seventh seed, while Tanvi Reddy holds the 12th seed position.


Men's Singles Overview

In the men's singles category, Dev Ruparelia, who is seeded third and recently won the India Junior International Grand Prix, will spearhead the Indian squad. He will be joined by Nishchal Chand, Jagsher Singh Khangurra, and Akhil Reddy Bobba.


Doubles Events

India will field two pairs in the boys' doubles competition: Aathish Sreenivas PV with Yogansh Singh, and Pavan Suresh alongside Punith Suresh. In the women's doubles, Aanya Bisht and Angel Punera will compete, along with Diya Bheemaiah and Baruni Parshwal. Notably, Bisht and Punera were part of the bronze medal-winning team from the previous year's tournament. Additionally, Divyansh Agrawal and Varna Prabhuanand, along with Yogansh Singh and Aanya Bisht, will participate in the mixed doubles category.


India's Historical Performance

Last year, Tanvi Sharma earned a silver medal in the girls' singles event at this championship. Saina Nehwal, an Olympic medalist, remains the only Indian player to have won a gold medal at the Championships, achieving this feat in 2008.
