Operation Sindoor: Ongoing Naval Efforts

Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, the Chief of the Navy, has stated that Operation Sindoor is an ongoing initiative. Over the past seven to eight months, the Indian Navy has established a dominant presence in the western Arabian Sea. The preparedness of India has instilled fear in the Pakistani Navy, which has remained confined to its ports during this operation. Admiral Tripathi emphasized that Operation Sindoor is a campaign against terrorism that is far from over.

Since the last Navy Day, the Indian Navy has logged approximately 11,000 ship days and 50,000 flight hours, with activities continuing. Since 2008, a vessel has been consistently stationed in the Gulf of Aden, tasked with anti-piracy operations.

Significant Achievements and Operations

To date, 138 ships have been deployed, successfully providing security to over 3,700 merchant vessels of various nationalities. Since the onset of the Red Sea crisis on November 23, the Navy has apprehended 62 pirates. This increase in piracy is attributed to the rising activities of non-state actors like the Houthis. Consequently, 40 major vessels, along with their essential assets such as helicopters, have been deployed.

The Navy has ensured the safe transport of 15.2 million metric tons of cargo across 376 merchant ships, with an estimated cost of $6.5 billion. During this period, the Navy has also responded to over 30 incidents and rescued more than 520 individuals at sea. One of the Navy's ships received a commendation from the International Maritime Organization for its daring rescue of the crew members of the motor tanker Prestige Falcon off the coast of Oman, for which the Chief of the Oman Navy also expressed gratitude.
