Minister Honors Lacrosse Teams

On Wednesday, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, recognized the achievements of the Indian men's and women's lacrosse teams after they clinched gold medals at the Asian Lacrosse Games in Riyadh. He encouraged the athletes to maintain their hard work and strive for a historic qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. During his interaction with the teams, the Minister highlighted the significance of determination, exposure, and consistent effort in emerging sports like lacrosse, as stated in a press release from the Sports Ministry.


India's Success at the Asian Lacrosse Games

India showcased an impressive performance at the Asian Lacrosse Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this February, winning gold medals in both men's and women's categories in the Sixes format. The men's team triumphed over Iraq, while the women's team defeated Pakistan in their final matches. Notably, the Indian women's lacrosse team made its international debut in 2024, followed by the men's team in 2025, making their success even more commendable.

A remarkable aspect of India's victory was the diverse representation of athletes from various states, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.


Road to the 2028 Olympics

The Asian Lacrosse Games, organized by the Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union, are part of a larger initiative to create competitive pathways in the region as lacrosse prepares for its inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Upcoming major events for India include the 3rd Asian Lacrosse Games in Chengdu, China, scheduled for April, and the Asia-Pacific Sixes Lacrosse Championships in Australia this October, which will serve as a qualification route for LA 2028.
