Indian Javelin Athletes Secure Final Spots

On Thursday, Indian javelin throwers Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav, and Yash Vir Singh successfully qualified for the men's javelin final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, despite facing challenging windy conditions in Glasgow, as reported by ESPN.

Neeraj Chopra's Path to Qualification

Neeraj, known for his ability to qualify with a standout throw, had to wait until his second attempt to secure his final spot. He began with a throw of 76.28m but improved to 79.61m on his second attempt, placing him fifth in the qualification rankings. After confirming his position among the top 12, he chose not to make a third attempt.

Performance of Other Indian Athletes

Yash Vir Singh kicked off his qualification with a throw of 73.89m, gradually improving throughout the round. His final throw of 78.36m secured him the 10th position, allowing him to advance to the final.

Rohit Yadav also qualified with a steady performance, starting with 77.04m and achieving his best throw of 78.37m in the second round, which placed him ninth overall. He opted out of his final attempt, feeling confident about his qualification.

Qualification Round Results

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage led the qualification with an impressive throw of 82.84m, followed by Grenada's Anderson Peters at 81.29m. South Africa's Douw Smit (80.64m) and England's Ben East (80.38m) also surpassed the 80m mark. Notably, Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the 2024 Olympic gold medalist, qualified in seventh place with a throw of 78.63m, while several prominent athletes faced difficulties due to the adverse conditions.

In the final qualification standings, Neeraj finished fifth, Rohit ninth, and Yash Vir Singh tenth, with all three advancing to the medal round.
