Indian boxers Sachin Siwach and Preeti Pawar are determined to secure gold medals at the upcoming Asian Games, following their impressive victories at the Commonwealth Games 2026 held in Glasgow. The Indian boxing team achieved its best performance in CWG history, clinching seven golds and a total of ten medals, and received a warm reception upon their return to Delhi Airport.

Boxers Focused on Future Goals

In an interview, Sachin, who won gold in the men's 60 kg category, expressed that witnessing the national flag raised after his victory brings a unique joy, stating, "This is what we strive for. I aim to bring home gold from the Asian Games and encourage everyone to keep believing in us." He made a stunning comeback to win against Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo with a close 3-2 split decision.

Preeti, who also has her sights set on the Asian Games starting September 19 in Japan and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, expressed gratitude to her supporters. She shared, "We cannot describe the joy of hearing the National Anthem play; it’s an indescribable feeling." Preeti, a bronze medalist from the 2022 Asian Games, secured the women's 54 kg gold at CWG 2026 by defeating Canada's Scarlett Delgado unanimously.

India's Medal Performance at CWG 2026

The 2026 Commonwealth Games adopted a compact format, resulting in the exclusion of several key events where India traditionally excels, such as shooting, hockey, wrestling, and badminton. Despite this, India finished fourth in the overall medal standings, amassing 39 medals: 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze.

Preparations for Amdavad 2030

India has officially embarked on its journey to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Amdavad. This was marked by the ceremonial handover of the Commonwealth Games Flag during a spectacular Closing Ceremony that celebrated the conclusion of Glasgow 2026 and looked forward to the historic centenary edition of the Games.
