India experienced a significant day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, with Gulveer Singh making history by winning the country's inaugural medal in the men's 10,000m event. Additionally, Harjinder Kaur secured silver in weightlifting, while three Indian boxers advanced to the semifinals, ensuring at least three more medals for the nation.
Gulveer's Landmark 10,000m Silver
Gulveer Singh emerged as the standout performer, achieving silver in the men's 10,000m race. The Army athlete clocked an impressive time of 27:49.78, maintaining his position with the leading group before executing a powerful sprint in the final lap to finish just behind Australia's Ky Robinson. This silver medal marked a historic moment for India, as it was the country's first-ever podium finish in the men's 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games.
Harjinder's Career-Best Performance
Harjinder Kaur kicked off Day 6 for India with a silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting event. The lifter from Punjab achieved a career-best total of 227kg, which included 101kg in the snatch and 126kg in the clean and jerk, finishing second to Canada's Charlotte Simoneau. Harjinder also made headlines by breaking the Commonwealth Games snatch record twice, improving upon her bronze medal performance from the Birmingham 2022 Games.
