Indian Athletes Shine at Asian U20 Championships with Three Golds
India's Success on the Penultimate Day
On Saturday, Indian athletes secured three additional gold medals during the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships held in Hong Kong. This achievement brought India's total gold medal count to seven, with standout performances from Nikhil Chandrashekar in the 3000m steeplechase, Basant in the high jump, and Shahnavaz Khan in the long jump.
Highlights of Saturday's Gold Medalists
Nikhil Chandrashekar clinched victory in the men's 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a personal best time of 9:25.44 seconds, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Shahnavaz Khan also excelled, winning gold in the men's long jump with a remarkable leap of 7.84m. His teammate, Jithin Arjunan Raman Chandrasekaran, secured the silver medal with a jump of 7.66m.
Basant contributed to the gold medal haul by clearing a height of 2.20m in the men's high jump.
Additional Indian Performances
Aarti earned a bronze medal in the women's 200m, clocking a personal best of 24.12 seconds. Bhumika Sanjay Nehate closely followed, finishing fourth with a time of 24.13 seconds.
In the women's javelin throw, Poonam represented India but finished eighth with a throw measuring 46.55m.
