Asmita Dey, a judoka and Commonwealth Games medalist, is set to compete for a bronze medal in the women's 48 kg Judo event at the Asian Games in Japan on Wednesday. After her quarterfinal loss, Asmita secured her place in the bronze medal match by defeating Hong Kong's Wong Ka Lee with a Yuko in the repechage round. She will face Malaysia's Ganbaataryn Narantsetseg at 1:45 PM, according to ESPN. Earlier, Asmita advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Vietnam's Ha Ngoc Chi with an ippon but was eliminated by Kazakhstan's three-time world championships medalist Abiba Abuzhakynova, also by ippon.

In the men's Greco-Roman 87kg category, Sunil Kumar will also vie for a bronze medal at 3:00 PM IST after losing in the semifinal to Japan's Taizo Yoshida by technical superiority. Sunil had a strong start to his Asian Games journey, winning his opening bout against Tajikistan's Muhammad Sultonzoda with a dominant 9-0 score.

Boxing: Priya Ghanghas Takes Home Bronze

Priya Ghanghas, a gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games 2026, has secured a bronze medal at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya after losing to China's Yang Chengyu in the women's 60 kg semifinal. This marks India's 55th medal at the Asian Games 2026, contributing to a tally of eight golds, 21 silvers, and now 26 bronzes.

In the first round, Yang started aggressively, but Priya managed to counter effectively, landing some punches. However, Yang ended the round strong, winning it 3-2. The second round saw both boxers trading hits, with Yang taking it 4-1. In the final round, Priya struggled to connect, and Yang maintained her defense, winning the round 4-1, leaving Priya with the bronze.

Archery: India Claims Gold

The day began with a remarkable performance from the Indian archery team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi, and Prithika Pradeep, who clinched gold in the women's compound archery team event by defeating China with a score of 238-234. The Indian archers led throughout the match, marking Jyothi's fourth Asian Games gold and the first for Chikitha and Prithika.

Additionally, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav won gold in the compound mixed team event after a thrilling shoot-off against South Korea. This victory also secured India a qualification spot for the compound mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The duo showcased remarkable composure in a tense final, ultimately sealing their gold medal in the decisive shoot-off.
