On Friday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to Indian athletes Gulveer Singh and Manpreet Kaur for their impressive performances at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Gulveer Singh secured a silver medal in the men's 10,000m race, while Manpreet Kaur earned a bronze in the women's shot put event.

In a post on X, Minister Mandaviya praised Gulveer's achievement, stating, "A STUNNING RUN FOR SILVER! Congratulations to Gulveer Singh on a brilliant Silver Medal in the Men’s 10,000m at #AsianGames2026!"

He also congratulated Manpreet, saying, "Congratulations to Manpreet Kaur on winning the Bronze medal in Women's Shot Put at the #AsianGames2026!"

Gulveer Singh's Silver Medal Performance

During the men's 10,000m event, Gulveer finished with a time of 28:29.38, placing second to Bahrain's Birhanu Balew, who won gold with a time of 28:27.51. Albert Kiptoo from Bahrain took home the bronze with a time of 28:34.38, as reported by ESPN.

Gulveer, a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army, maintained his position among the leaders for most of the race, only to be outpaced by Balew in the final stretch. This silver medal marks an improvement for Gulveer, who previously won bronze in the same event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Manpreet Kaur's Achievement in Shot Put

In the women's shot put, Manpreet achieved her best throw of 17.17 meters during her fourth attempt, securing her spot on the podium. China's Song Jiayuan won gold with a throw of 19.40m, while her compatriot Zhang Linru took silver with 18.14m, according to ESPN.

India's Overall Medal Count

As of Friday, India's total medal count at the Asian Games has reached 23, which includes two gold, nine silver, and twelve bronze medals.
